Getting Started

Active Ants (AA) provides access to a Data Warehouse (DWH) to certain clients.

With this access, clients can retrieve data on their orders / shipments / stock and more.

In order to get access to the DWH, clients will need to request access via their account manager.

Please note! The DWH is for analytical and reporting purposes (OLAP). It is NOT to be used for transactional processing (OLTP). In other words: do not simply connect your ERP system to this DWH and treat it as a transactional database.

Please note as well that this is an initial set-up. Active Ants may change this configuration / architecture soon, to accommodate new requirements.

Datawarehouse Overview

The DWH is an instance of Snowflake (see www.snowflake.com for details).

Within the DWH there are 4 databases defined:

  1. DWH_DEV for development purposes. Used when working together with Active Ants IT to configure your datasets / access.
  2. DWH_TST for testing purposes.
  3. DWH_ACC for our acceptance environment.
  4. DWH_PRD for the PRODUCTION environment.

Each database will hold the same schema. The data for clients is available via the IA_EXTERN schema inside each database. This is the only schema our clients can use (per database).

NOTE: at the time of writing only the DWH_DEV environment is actively maintained. Active Ants IT is still working to stabilise the production setup. Till that time: use DWH_DEV. Active Ants IT will notify clients when the switch to the other environment(s) becomes feasible.

Update frequency

Active Ants refreshes the data in the DWH at fixed intervals. The more volatile data like Orders and Shipments is refreshed at 15 or 60 minute intervals, other base-data is refreshed more infrequently, but at least once per day.

As such it should be clear that the DWH is meant for reporting purposes and not for operational decision making. It is strongly recommended that customers refrain from utilizing data in the Data Warehouse as the basis for any operational processes. Not all data in the DWH is updated in real-time!

Multi tenancy

The DWH holds data of multiple clients. Active Ants has applied Row Level Access Policies to make sure clients can only access their data. This means that, based on each client's login credentials, they will only be able to see data pertaining to their transactions.

Costs + SLA

Active Ants provides access to the DWH free-of-charge, for the time being. We have yet to determine what the costs per usage would be, but will communicate in a timely manner before enforcing costs.

We do not foresee any limitations to access of old data. Meaning: the DWH will be used for storing all historic data, whereas data access in Maya itself will be limited to the latest 3 years, max.
